90-year-old Ruby Butler Scott, of Killen, died in Huntsville Hospital from injuries she sustained during a one car accident on U.S. 72. Butler was a passenger in a Ford Mustang driven by her grandson, Austin Gerald Newton, Jr. According to reports, the Mustang was traveling east on U.S. 72 when something caused the vehicle to run off the road and into the median, where the car began to flip. Witnesses stated that the car flipped several times before coming to rest in the westbound lanes on U.S. 72. Firefighters from Killen and Center Star were called to the scene and had to extricate the two victims. Scott is the 10th person to die from injuries sustained in an automobile accident this year in northwest Alabama and the southern Tennessee counties of Wayne and Lawrence. The accident is being investigated by Killen Police.
