Alloys Recreational Association Seeks to Donate Land

A group of former Reynolds Alloys workers and retirees are interested in donating a 40 acre campground off River Road near Gargis Hollow to the Colbert County Commission to be used as a public park. The group known as the Alloys Recreational Association and attorney Marcel Black decided to donate the land becasue they can no longer afford the upkeep, and could not benefit from selling it. The area has 20 campsites with electrical and water connections, boat access ramp to Wilson Lake, restrooms and a pavilion. The process of completeing the improvements necessary would take up to four years as gratn money becomes available. The boat ramp wouldneed to be enlarged and the on-lane roadway leading to the campground would have to be widened. The commission has agreed to accept the property, provided the group can legally convey it to the county.
