Body Found in Residence in Leighton

Leighton Police are in the beginning stages of deciding whether a body found in a home in Leighton was the result of foul play. Police Chief Kenny Wallace said the the man's body was located in his mobile home in a trailer park off First Street after concerned calls from friends and neighbors indicated they had not seen him, but they had noticed flies and a foul odor around the residence. Police were notified at 6 pm Saturday and the Leighton firefighters helped gain entry into the home where they located the body.Leighton Assistant Police Chief Truman Jones is working the scene and he is being assisted by the Colbert County Sheriff's Deputies. The man's identity was not released, and Wallace said he would request an autopsy even if there are not obvious signs of foul play.
