STACS, the company that handlesColbert County's tax collections, was given permission on Tuesday at the council meeting to pursue tax liens against six businesses that are between 4 and 16 months past due on paying their sales tax. Donnie Allen, owner of STACS said that there are 1,650 businesses paying taxes in Colbert County, and only six are behind on taxes and therefore a very small percent. The businesses concerned are Holiday Inn in Sheffield, Tuscumbia Trading Company, Shoals Package Store in Muscle Shoals, American Tire and Auto in Muscle Shoals, Sheffield's The Country Porch and Pasquale's in Muscle Shoals. The amounts of owed taxes were not known because four of the businesses had not filed tax reports.
