52 year old William Louis "Slick J" Johnson has been convicted of extorting money. Lauderdale County Circuit Court Judge Mike Jones sextenced Johnson to sentenced to 25 years in prison for exploitation of an elderly person, 25 years in prison for second-degree burglary and six months in the Lauderdale County Detention Center for attempted third-degree theft with the sentences to run concurrent. The conviction came after Johnson was charged with extorting money from 89 year old Hiawatha Walker, and Jones ordered him to pay $24,965 restitution to Walker. During the trial, a neighbor testified seeing Johnson inside Walker's home with his hands around Walker's neck, demanding money. Officials with the department began investigating Johnson after officials at AmSouth Bank expressed concern about withdrawals from Walker's account. Johnson's lawyers maintains that any money Walker gave Johnson was no business of police because it was a private transaction. |
