Former Lauderdale Resident Arrested And Charged With Child Abuse

Former Lauderdale County resident Tiffany Leigh Matheson, 19, has been arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. She has been hiding from authorities for over six months in Tennessee after being accused of slapping her 23 month old daughter in the face numerous times. Someone contacted the Lauderdale County Department of Human Resources and reported that they saw a slap mark on the child's face. Matheson was transferred back to Laudersale County after investigators were able to track her to Cheatham County in Tennessee. Authorities said that their investigation revealed that it was not an isolated incident and that the child had been slapped several times. The child was placed in custody of DHR at the time. Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said that the case has not been set for trial, but could go to trial by this fall. The charge Matheson faces is a class B felony and carries a prison sentence of 10-20 years upon conviction. She has been released from the Lauderdale County Detention Center Detention Center on bail totaling $5,000.
