The George Ricks Cemetary, located just outside of Muscle Shoals, is one of the oldest African-American Cemetaries in North Alabama and dates back to 1873. This weekend, the cemetary fell victim to vandals as they put graffitti on one monument and knocked over tombstones. Kenneth Sith takes care of the cemetary where many family members have been buried and he says that this is not the first instance of vandalism there. The most common problem is people riding their 4 wheelers through the cemetary; lately they have been pushing over tombstones to use as ramps. Smith says that he has tried a variety of methods to deter vandals including posting signs and requesting extra police surveillance.
