Lauderdale County Commission Considers Parking Lot Purchase
Lauderdale County commissioners have started a process which they hope will result in easing the overcrowded parking conditions at the courthouse. According to Commissioner Larry Irons, the commission has instructed county attorney Chris Smith
to explore the possibility of purchasing the parking lot at the corner of Seminary Street and College Street, which is owned by First Southern Bank and has 83 parking spaces. The bank has been shopping the parking lot and an offer of $250,000 has been made for its purchase, which has a 60-day option. When the city of Florence and the county agreed to jointly purchase the former First Southern Bank building at the intersection of Court Street and Tennessee Street, the entities were given the first right of refusal clause for the purchase of the parking lot. County Administrator Jenoice Bevis said that Smith will be on a fact finding mission to bring information before the commission to consider what they will do. Smith is expected to report back to the commission with his findings within the next few weeks. |
