34 year old Daryl Sizemore, of Sheffield, was killed and his 20 year old brother Brent was injured after a large tree limb fell from a tree and struck their truck on Sixth Street in Tuscumbia. Daryl Sizemore was pronounced dead at the scene by Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley, who said the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. According to authorities, Brent Sizemore was taken from the scene by Keller Ambulance to Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital, and from there was taken to Huntsville Hospital. The brothers were driving west on Sixth Street when the limb fell almost 70 feet from a tree and hit the cab of the truck. Emergency personnel at the scene said that the impact from the tree limb left the cab of the truck crushed to the point where it was flush with the hood. Director of the Colbert County Emergency Management Agency said that the limb likely broke because of strong gusty winds, which, according to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, there were gusting winds of 30-40 mph in the area at the time of the accident. The accident is under investigation by the Tuscumbia Police Department. |
