At Monday night's city council meeting, the public saw its first glimpses of the economic development plan for Sheffield's riverfront area. Oswald T Sousa, director of development for Trophy Golf and Resorts presented the conceptual drawings. The plans have been in discussion for nearly a year, but no construction date or completion date have been set yet. The drawings included a 104-room riverside resort, complete with shops, restaurants, a marina and a pier to give boaters access to the resort. There would also be a 151unit 2 and 3 bedroom apartment style residences to be sold and an 18 hole golf course that is being designed in conjucntion with Jack Nicklaus. Sousa said the project would further identify the Shoals as a tourist destination and emphasized that downtown Sheffield is worth being preserved. |
