Ray Chosen as Sheffield Police Chief

Sheffield has made it official and appointed Greg Ray as the new police chief. Ray has been serving as interim police chief since Doug Aycock retired in December after more than 20 years as police chief. Sheffield's civil service board presented the names of three candidates during Monday night's city council meeting. Five people had applied for the job and three were interviewed: Greg Ray, Sheffield Police Sergeant Fred Grabryan, and Anthony Pace, an investigator with the Colbert County District Attorney's office. The council selected Ray in a unanimous vote. Ray said that he was very proud to be the new police chief and he called the event a "pinnacle of your career when something like this happens to you." Ray also accredited the success of Sheffield Police Department to its officers and their hard work. Several of the officers were in attendence at Monday night's meeting.
