Stay of Execution Granted for Thomas Arthur

Thomas Douglas Arthur has been granted a stay of execution for the third time just shy of 24 hours before his execution was scheduled. A signed confession from an inmate that was in Holman Prison with Arthur until January surfaced earlier this week saying that the inmate, Bobby Ray Gilbert had actually killed Wicker.Arthur was convicted of the contract killing of Troy Wicker in 1982 and say that he asked for the death penalty in his sentencing because he believed it would help his appeal. The Alabama Supreme Court gave no reason for their 5-4 decision to stay the execution.
