TUSCUMBIA--The preliminary hearing for a former Sheffield school teacher, accused of raping and sodomizing one of her former students, has been postponed until May.
According to courthouse personnel, the hearing for, 39-year-old, Amanda Duboise Watkins, 122 Roxie Drive, Florence, has been re-scheduled for May 4th at 8:00 a.m. in Judge George Carpenter’s courtroom. This at the request of Watkins’s attorney, Ralph Holt.
Watkins was reportedly caught last December in a vehicle with one of her former students behind Covenant Christian School in Muscle Shoals.
She is charged with Rape and Sodomy and remains free on $15,000 bail.
Guilt or innocence is not decided at a preliminary hearing, only whether or not there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case, before presenting it to a grand jury.
Watkins’s employment with Sheffield City Schools was terminated last week at a board of education meeting.
