Dr. Amy Bishop had been charged with capital murder in the shooting deaths of three co-workers Friday afternoon. According to university spokesperson Ray Garner, the three who were killed were G.K. Podila, the chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences, and two associates, Maria Ragland and Adriel Johnson. The shooting took place in the Shelby Center science building on the University of Alabama Huntsville campus during a meeting of the Biology faculty. During the meeting, Dr. Bishop was informed that she would not receive tenure. At that time, she pulled out her gun and started shooting. Three victims are still being treated at Huntsville Hospital: Stephanie Monticello and Luis Rogelio Cruz-Vera are both in stable condition while Joseph Leahy remains in critical condition. The UAH campus will be closed February 15-19 and all athletic events have been cancelled.
