Tuscumbia Grants Some Amnesty During August

Tuscumbia will be instituting an amnesty period for those who have outstanding traffic tickets or misdemeanor criminal offenses to pay fines without facing jail time, thanks to a decision by the city council at Monday night's meeting. Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan and city magistrate Joann Crouch will be working together to allow people to take care of their fines during this amnesty period which will be between August 4 and August 31. After this amensty period those who have not taken care of their fines will be the subject of a renewed effort to serve warrants on those still in debt to the city. It is unclear how much money is owed to the city, but some of the 1,000 offenses date back to 1998 and fines are as much as $3000. This amnesty period does not include sexual misconduct or domestic violence offenses.
