Holly Herrin and Marlee Nabors, both recent Florence High School graduates, have designed a board game based on Monopoly that is called Budgetopoly, which focuses on designing a room while working with a budget, something the graduates feel that young people have a problem with today. They entered the game in the state Family, Community and Career Leaders of America and won first place, and were therefore qualified to compete in the national competition in Orlando, where they were also awarded first place in the Illustrated Talk category. Herrin and Nabors designed the project for an interior design class at Florence High School. At the competition, the judges approached the women about purchasing the game, but Herrin and Nabors had already done research into getting the game copyrighted, patented and marketed. The Florence High School culinary team competed at the same competition and they were awarded a bronze medal in the culinary arts division.
