A fire engineer hired by Christie Michelle Scott's defense attorneys took the stand on Monday. Scott is accused of starting the house fire that killed her six-year-old son Mason Scott. Douglas Carpenter testified that the fire started in the television cabinet inside the bedroom that Mason shared with his younger brother, Noah. Carpenter based his theory on the high carbon monoxide level found in Mason's blood during an autopsy. Prosecutors contend Noah's bed is where the fire started. During cross-examination by Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing, Carpenter admitted to being paid $300 dollars an hour and will likely earn more than $20,000 for his work on the Scott case.
