In an effort to prove her innocence, Christie Michelle Scott took the stand on Wednesday. Scott is accused of killing her son, 6-year-old Mason Scott, in a house fire last August. Scott testified that the morning of the fire, she woke up to smoke hitting her face. Scott said she and her younger son, 4-year-old Noah Scott, who'd slept in the room with her that night, escaped through a bedroom window, but said she could not get down the hall to Mason's room because of the heavy smoke and flickering. Defense Attorney Robert Tuten asked Christie Scott if she started the fire and if she killed Mason. She cried and answered no to both questions. Prosecutors will begin cross examination Thursday morning.
