The Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Tournament Is Canceled

VUpdated: Jan 27, 2010 3:11 PM PST
FLORENCE, AL - Over 150 collegiate anglers were expected to fish Pickwick Lake January 28-29 in the first Southern Collegiate Bass Series tournament of the 2010 season.
Due to inclement weather the tournament has been canceled for this weekend and rescheduled for March 12-13, 2010.
Choppy waters, potential flooding at the tournament site, and projected winter storms caused tournament directors to cancel this weekend's event.
Tournament organizer Jan Swaim, of Auburn University Bass Sports Club, expressed his regret that the tournament could not continue as planned.
"The safety of our anglers is number one priority.  Based on recommendations from TVA, we've decided that it is in the best interest of our young anglers to reschedule," said Swaim.
Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Director Debbie Wilson said, "While we're disappointed the tournament is not taking place this weekend, fishing conditions will likely be better in March and some additional opportunities for making their experience even more enjoyable will be available to us."
The rescheduled tournament will take place at McFarland Park in Florence, Alabama March 12-13, beginning at safelight each morning.  Weigh-ins will be held at 2 p.m. each afternoon.
