Franklin County warns of an asphalt scam

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing has warned of an asphalt scam. Most cases start with a person going door to door inquiring as to whether or not residents want to have their driveways paved. Typically, the person will say that they have been working on a job nearby and has enough leftover asphalt to do another job. The person quotes a price, but asks for more money than the quite after the job is done, claiming that more asphalt was needed than they thought. Rushing said to make sure there is a signed contract before work gets underway, and to make sure you read the contract thoroughly. Michelle Mason, president and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of North Alabama, said anyone who has a concern or question about a business or individual offering to do work should call the Better Business Bureau or any local law enforcement agency.
